Bloomington is located in the state of Indiana and has a total surface area of roughly 100 square kilometres, half of which is water while the other half is land. Erosive forces have carved out the landscape in a unique way comprising sinking streams, caves, springs, ravines and sinks. The town sits at a distance of roughly 80km south of the state's capital, the city of Indianapolis. It is also the 6th largest city in the country because of its large and densely packed population.
Weather conditions veer between two extremes in the town. Wintertime temperatures occur in the single digits while summer heats up to its hottest temperatures in July and August at roughly 30 degrees Celsius.
